We went to Tyler Bend yesterday – a spot on the Buffalo River. We wanted to grill some hot dogs, maybe do a bit of fishing, and let Jackie’s cousins go swimming and floating. I’ve always gone to the Spring River so I didn’t know anything about the Buffalo. One of our good friends is a park ranger on the Buffalo River so he knew of a couple of good out of the way spots we could try. The problem was that they were too out of the way, and we didn’t feel like lugging the food and other supplies through the woods and down huge hills.
Jackie’s mom suggested Tyler Bend so we decided to try it there. They have a really nice campground with great facilities and lots of room to spread out. Picnic tables and outdoor grills are everywhere and there’s plenty of shade to be found. Not far from where we setup on a picnic table was the river and the swimming holes that had been made. Gravel and sand beaches made things nice and clean, and the kids really enjoyed floating in the river – some of them more than others (Braxton, I’m talking to you…).
After spending the day at the campground we packed it in around 5 PM and made it home in time for dinner and a bit of rest before another Monday morning hit. Jackie and I are definitely going to keep that spot in mind when we’re looking for a bit of camping or even another getaway day trip.

DO NOT STAY AT TYLER BEND CAMPGROUND. The park rangers search for any infraction they can find and write $125.00 tickets for each. No warnings.
Hi Terry – wow – $125 tickets. That’s crazy. Let me guess – it’s simple infractions like littering or being too loud at night.
Thank god we know the park ranger there or Trey would have been in trouble blinding people with his white glow.
