Jackie’s family came over on Thanksgiving for food, visiting, and football.
I got up at 1 AM Thursday morning and put the turkey on the smoker. I put together a sort of custom concoction for the rub so I was a bit worried about how that was going to turn out. I had to put the smoker in the garage so it would stay out of the wind and the cold. I made the mistake of putting it on the back porch last year and struggled to keep the coals hot and the turkey cooking.
Jackie’s family came over that afternoon, and we all sat around and visited and watched football. We also played Chicken Foot – a type of dominoes game. Jackie and I couldn’t remember the rules, but that was easily solved with a little Google action. Thank God for the Internet.
We turned on Guitar Hero III on the XBox for Jackie’s little brother Braxton. Jackie’s mom wanted to see if he liked it since she’s thinking about getting it for him for Christmas. I’m not sure he fully grasped the point of the game, but he did seem to like rockin out with the guitar.
The food was ready at 4 PM, and everyone sat down to eat. I have to say – the turkey might have been the best I’ve ever made. The flavor was great, and it was literally falling apart because it was so tender. We also had stuffing, ham, casseroles, and other typical holiday eats. Once everyone was finished eating, the kids went out in the back yard to throw the football around. The rest of us sat in the living room and watched Jackie’s Dallas Cowboys get an easy win over the New York Jets. Jackie’s pumped because the Cowboys are now 10-1 on the season. I grin and bear it. No, I do not like the Cowboys – at all.
Everyone left that evening, and Jackie and I cleaned up the house. She had to work that night, but at least they let her do her job from home. I laid on the couch like a lazy slob. It was Thanksgiving after all!
