Jackie and I returned from our trip to St Lucia where we were married and spent a fantastic time relaxing and soaking up the rays. We stayed at the Sandals Regency resort for 7 days and loved every minute of it. The weather and the people were great. We got to see a lot of new places and experience the island life of St Lucia.
On September 27 – after an exhausting day of flying into St Lucia from Little Rock, we checked into the Sandals Regency resort. We stayed in a 2-level villa complete with our own butler. I’ve never had the butler experience before, and let me tell you – it is GREAT. I could get used to that very easily.
The villa was very spacious and clean and had a magnificent view of the ocean and the beach from atop a 50 foot bluff. We even had a deck with our own personal “plunge pool” out back. The little pool was great for jumping in to cool off, float lazily around, or get some sun.
The next day we went downtown to the lawyer’s office and signed all the necessary paperwork. That only took about 10 minutes and then we were back to the resort to sip fruity drinks and lay around the main pool area for the rest of the day.
Saturday was the big day so we woke up early, and Jackie basically worked on her hair all morning and early afternoon. I watched TV and tried not to get too nervous. A car picked us up at around 3 PM, and took us to a dock where we were to board a boat and sail to the Pigeon Island where the ceremony was to take place. Unfortunately the boat broke down (of course) on the way to pick us up so we had to settle for the car. It really wasn’t a big deal though – in hindsight it was probably better for Jackie’s hair anyway.
The ceremony went off without a hitch. We were married by a tall man named Leslie, and our photographer, videographer, and their assistant were the only other people present. The beach is privately owned so we were able to rent it and not have to worry about strangers wandering around looking for shells while we said “I do”.
After the ceremony, we popped open a bottle of champagne and sat and watched the ocean. We then walked all around the island while having photographs and video taken. The guys taking the shots were great – very friendly and funny and really made it a nice experience for both of us.
The car took us back to the resort, and our butler had prepared a surprise for us when we returned. Flowers and candles were EVERYWHERE and the towels had been shaped into the form of two swans on the bed. He then escorted us to dinner in a private gazebo overlooking the main resort area and the ocean. We were served a 4 course meal, and the food was excellent. Our waitress was very nice and came regularly with new food and to make sure we had everything we needed.
The rest of the stay went very smoothly, and we had a blast. We really enjoyed taking it easy and just laying out and reading or relaxing. We also went to all the resort restaurants and were really impressed by the food. I assumed it would be “just OK”, but the chefs there are actually fantastic. We also went on an excursion and got to see St Lucia – the volcano (a caldera actually), the diamond waterfall, the botanical gardens, and the town of Soufriere.
The week came and went, and we returned home on Oct 4. We had to fly all day again to get home, but we were glad when we finally made it. It felt good to be home again even though we definitely did not want to leave St Lucia that morning.
And now you can call us “The Connells”!
