Jackie’s family was in from Denver, CO so we decided to give them a bit of a tour of Little Rock aboard the Arkansas Queen. I’ve lived in this area since 1999, but I’d never had the Arkansas Queen experience. The Arkansas Queen is a riverboat that gives two hour tours of the Arkansas River along the downtown area of Little Rock. We booked the Family Night Dinner / Entertainment and Magic Cruise. Essentially you’re served dinner buffet-style and after dinner the kids are entertained by a magic show. The kids had spaghetti, and the adults had ham, chicken, and an array of sides. The food wasn’t bad, but it was nothing to brag about either. However, all the kids came back from the magic show with big smiles on their faces so I’m guessing they had a really good time. While the kids were gone, the adults moved from the dining and dancing area to the upper decks of the boat to watch the sunset, the skyline over downtown, the parks and wildlife areas, and of course the river itself.
I never really paid that much attention to the Arkansas River when passing by on the surrounding highways, but it is actually very nice and moves much faster than I thought. I saw Little Rock and residential areas from a different angle, and it was pretty neat to look at all the huge homes overlooking the river up in the hills.
All in all, everyone had a really good time. It’s a bit pricey considering the food they serve so that would be my only complaint.
